OCVarsity’s season preview for 2016:
SANTA ANA SAINTS
Coach: Charles TeGantvoort
Last season: 8-3 overall, 3-2 league
Scouting report: Santa Ana won its first seven games last season before cooling off down the stretch. The Saints posted a whopping 35.2 points per game, and it’s scary to think that number could have been higher. Jorge Briseno had 1,584 yards in five games before tearing his ACL. His twin brother, Jonathan, earned Golden West League MVP honors as the team’s quarterback and a cornerback on defense. The dynamic backfield duo is back and healthy for their senior year. Defenses, beware.
Bottom line: A full season from halfback Jorge Briseno could be the key to vaulting Santa Ana to the top of the league standings.
Players to watch: Jonathan Briseno, QB/CB, Sr.; Jorge Briseno, RB, Sr.; Steven Cruz, TE/DE, Sr.; Matthew Dorantes, OLB, Sr.; Francisco Franco, OT/DT, Jr.
