Scouting report: The Titans have seven returning starters on offense. They have six returning starters on defense. Tesoro has one of the county’s better passer-receiver combos in quarterback Devon Modster and split end Jake Smeltzer. Running back Anthony Battista transferred from Corona del Mar, where he was a standout as a sophomore. Offensive lineman Zach Hickman was All-County third team in 2013. Tesoro, No. 29 in CalHiSports.com’s state preseason rankings, would be league favorite in many Southern California leagues, but the South Coast League has Mission Viejo, which looks mighty, as always, this season. Tesoro will be Mission’s top competition for the South Coast title. If the Titans stay healthy – depth is a concern – they will give Mission a heck of a battle and remain somewhere in the county top 10 all season. And watch out for Tesoro in the West Valley Division playoffs.
