EL TORO CHARGERS

Coach: Robert Frith (sixth year, 40-18)

Last season: 4-6 overall, 1-4 league

Scouting report: Mission Viejo and Tesoro clearly are the top two teams in the league. What’s unknown is how far behind, if at all, El Toro is from those two. The Chargers went 1-4 in league last season and were blown out in losses to Mission Viejo and Tesoro. El Toro will be better than last year, that’s for certain. The Chargers love to throw the football and they have the personnel to do so. Trey Tinsley averaged 306 passing yards a game last year as he completed 59 percent of his passes with 32 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Receiver Taylor Dodds was All-South Coast League second team last year. But a passing game needs a solid offensive line, and El Toro has an abundance of newcomers there. The five-team South Coast League gets two guaranteed berths in the West Valley Division playoffs. The Chargers will have to beat Mission or Tesoro to get one of them. A win over either would be a significant upset.
