EL MODENA VANGUARDS
Coach: Ed Draznek (fifth year, 10-30)
Last season: 2-8 overall, 0-6 league
Scouting report: The Vanguards went winless in their final season in the Century League, and should find their new home in the North Hills League more to their liking. Among the players looking for a fresh start is senior quarterback Daniel Contreras, who threw 18 interceptions to five touchdowns a year ago. El Modena will take some of the pressure off of him by placing a greater emphasis on running the football. Coach Ed Drzanek feels his offensive line is the team’s strongest unit, plus junior running back Kenneth Lamb showed a lot of potential last season. Lamb capped his sophomore year with a 190-yard showing against Villa Park. A breakout year from the running back would greatly improve El Modena’s shot at a postseason spot.
