CANYON COMANCHES
Coach: Mike Ogas (first year, 0-0)
Last season: 5-6 overall, 4-2 league
Scouting report: In addition to a new coach, Mike Ogas, Canyon will have 19 new starters. Maybe the most important player in that group is junior quarterback Jason Harmon. The 6-foot, 170-pound signalcaller will lead Ogas’ no-huddle, pistol-based offense. “We’re trying to dictate the tempo and throw a number of different personnel groups at defenses,” Ogas explained. “Jason has done a good job for us in camp, and he’s coming along nicely.” Junior free safety Trace Hobbs led the Comanches in tackles (117) as a sophomore, and he also returns as the squad’s leading receiver. Despite the inexperience, Ogas likes the athleticism he has across the board. “If we stay healthy the first seven games of the season, I think we have a good shot to win (league),” he added. “We’re trying to crash the party.”
