EL DORADO GOLDEN HAWKS
Coach: Mike Crawford (second year, 3-7)
Last season: 3-7 overall, 2-3 league
Scouting report: El Dorado nearly made the playoffs in Coach Mike Crawford’s first year, and could break through this season despite returning only nine starters. Senior middle linebacker Ethan Bernstein leads the defense. “Ethan plays like a maniac,” Crawford said. “He’s one of these kids who is just going to make plays for you.” Crawford says the Golden Hawks will lean on their defense early on so that the team’s new quarterback, Dominick Martinez, and two sophomore running backs, Josh Manaserro and Daniel Bucaro, have time to settle in. Senior receiver Jordan Wells could play a big role. As a junior, Wells started the season only months after breaking his leg. Now fully healed, he starred in the summer’s passing tournaments. “I coached in the Trinity League for years,” Crawford said. “He’d start for any of those teams. He might be the best player in the league.”
