OCVarsity’s season preview for 2016:
CYPRESS CENTURIONS
Coach: Rick Feldman
Last season: 2-8 overall, 0-5 league
Scouting report: The Centurions, who are looking to bounce back this season, have seven starters returning on offense, led by quarterback Alex Ashcraft and first team all-league wide receiver Dominique Thompson (45 receptions, six touchdowns). Ashcraft earned second-team all-league honors. Senior running back Jacob Mercado is also a key to the offense. Cypress has five starters back on defense and several seniors, especially at the linebacker spots. One concern is the lack of depth on the offensive line where three underclassmen are slated to start.
Bottom line: The Centurions need an improved offensive performance to get into playoff contention. Last year they scored more than 20 points in just two of their losses.
