MATER DEI MONARCHS

Coach: Bruce Rollinson (26th year, 240-76-2)

Last season: 11-3 overall, 3-2 league

Scouting report: The strengths of this team are the defensive line, which features All-County end Malik McMorris and Rasheed Williams, and offensive line, where the Monarchs have size and skill. Ben Humphreys, an All-County second-team linebacker last season, will see action at receiver. The Monarchs have a nice target at tight end in Kyle Penniston (6-3, 230 pounds), who committed to Wisconsin. The question marks are at cornerback and quarterback. Mater Dei, Pac-5 Division finalist in ’13, has new faces at both positions that are so crucial in a league with so many outstanding quarterbacks. The Monarchs need good production with minimal mistakes from senior quarterback Jack Lowary. They need the defensive front to put the type of pressure on opposing quarterbacks that would help the cornerbacks. If that comes together, Mater Dei will challenge for the championships of the league and the division.
