Scouting report: This looks like the best Orange Lutheran team in a few years. The Lancers have abundant athleticism at the skill positions and plenty of depth all over the field. Coach Chuck Petersen is enthusiastic about quarterback Lj Northington and the defensive front seven. Northington will be a two-way threat, and linebacker Keisean Lucier-South, All-County first team in 2013, could end up being the county defensive player of the year. Areas of concern are at offensive line and the secondary where Lutheran has a bunch of newcomers. Special teams can make a difference in a league as good as the Trinity, and the Lancers have one of the county’s top kickers in Jerry Fitschen. The Lancers made the playoffs last year as an at-large team. They might not be as good as St. John Bosco or Mater Dei, but they with be right there in what will be a wild battle for one of the league’s three guaranteed playoff berths and the Pac-5 Division’s two at-large berths.
