GAME OF THE DAY
No. 10 La Habra vs. No. 8 Yorba Linda
Not even a week into the season, and already the La Habra softball team is sending signals that this is going to be a season to remember for the Highlanders.
Behind the outstanding pitching of Janelle Rodriguez and Hannah Johnson, the Highlanders beat Yorba Linda, 4-0, in a pool-play game of the Brea-Yorba Linda Tournament.
La Habra (2-0) is ranked No. 10 in the Register’s season-opening Orange County Top 10, while the Mustangs (1-1) are ranked No. 8.
Rodriguez and Johnson combined to strike out 12, allowed four hits and walked five. Frankie Mendoza had three RBI.
The Highlanders opened the season with a 22-0 victory over Walnut on Saturday.
For the Mustangs, Ciarra Stapp went six innings on the mound (7H, 4ER, 2BB, 1K).
Allison Castro, Nicole Martinez, Meredith Meadows and Jessica Lane each had one hit for the Mustangs.

ROSARY 12, WHITNEY 0
Rosary’s Mady Christensen 3 for 3 with a triple and 5 RBI. Nicole Siess 3 for 3 with a HR and 3 runs.
On the mound, Amelia Wiercioch (3-0), went four innings, allowed one hit and struck out eight.
SANTA MARGARITA 5, TESORO 3
Paige Vargas (1-1) earned the victory for the Eagles for her effort (7IP, 3ER, 6H, 4K, 4BB).
Starring at the plate for the Eagles were Isabella Florentina (2-4, 2R, 2BB) and Alica Tucker (1-3, R, 3B).
VILLA PARK 2, Troy 0
Krista Dalgarn pitched a two-hitter for the Spartans and went 2 for 3 at the plate.
Shayna Dahlen added a 2-run HR, and Amanda Campos was 2-3 with a double and triple.
