The Register’s All-County girls volleyball team for 2016:

ALL-COUNTY FIRST TEAM

Meghan McClure

Santa Margarita, Sr., OH

The Register’s player of the year.

Shannon Scully

Mater Dei, Sr., OH

Scully (Utah) turned in another stellar all-around year. She led the Monarchs with 458 kills and finished second on the teams in aces (37) and digs (314). “She was our captain and team leader and was a tremendous role model for all the younger players in the program,” Mater Dei coach Dan O’Dell said. This is her second consecutive appearance on first-team All-County.

Julia Jackson

Huntington Beach, Sr., MB

Jackson finished the year with 229 kills and 111 blocks and posted a .618 hitting percentage. She earned all-tournament honors at the Lakewood Molten Classic and La Jolla Classic. She was first-team all-Sunset League. “Julia was a complete player in the middle,” Oilers coach Craig Pazanti said. “She has always been an amazing blocker, but she really elevated her attacking this season.” Jackson is headed to UC San Diego.

Madilyn Mercer

San Juan Hills, Sr., MB

Mercer helped the Stallions win their second consecutive South Coast League title. She finished with 147 kills and 84 total blocks. She also posted a .327 hitting percentage. “She often significantly slowed down the other team’s biggest offensive threat, which was a major difference maker,” Stallions coach Jessica Papell said. “She did a great job adjusting to a brand new, faster offense and learning to hit sets she’s never hit before and quickly became an offensive threat from multiple zones along the net.” She will play next year at Cal Poly SLO.

Sarah Ciszek

Santa Margarita, Jr., Opp

Ciszek emerged as a trusted option on the Eagles attack. She earned all-tournament honors at the Durango Fall Classic, helping the Eagles to a third-place finish. Ciszek finished with 205 kills, 22 blocks and 21 aces. “She was a force at the net,” Eagles coach Katy Daly said. “She was a go-to player for the Eagles and really stepped up and had a tremendous season.”

Cami Sanchez

Huntington Beach, Sr., OH

Sanchez was co-MVP of the Sunset League. She finished with 372 kills and 212 digs. She earned all-tournament honors at the Lakewood Molten Classic and La Jolla Classic. “She has always been a great player, but this year she really showed her maturity by becoming a vocal leader,” Oilers coach Craig Pazanti said. “She’s a complete player who we relied on both offensively and defensively.” Sanchez is headed to UCLA to play sand volleyball.

Julianna Reisinger

Santa Margarita, Sr., Libero

Reisinger, who is headed to Purdue, recorded 33 aces with 403 digs. “She had a very strong senior year,” Eagles coach Katy Daly said “Her ball control and knowledge of the game really allowed the Eagles to run a great offense. She really stepped up into the libero position, digging balls with the best in the nation.” Reisinger earned all-tournament honors at Durango Fall Classic

Devon Chang

Santa Margarita, Jr., Setter

Chang ran the Eagles offense and made it one of more diverse attacks around. Chang finished with 79 blocks, 1,207 assists, 26 aces and 220 digs. She earned second-team All-County honors last season. “She was one of the best setters nationally,” Coach Katy Daly said. “She knows how to spread her offense. She’s a natural leader and knows the game well.” Chang committed to Cal.

Hannah Phair

Edison, Sr., OH

Coach Matt Skolnik described Phair as the team’s engine. The senior outside hitter was one of the top all-around players in the county. She recorded 376 kills, 47 aces and 286 digs, and led the Chargers to SoCal Regional and CIF State titles. “She made the team go,” Skolnik said. “She’s one of our strongest attackers, strongest passers, strongest defender and with her all-around game, really affected our play in every facet of the game.” Phair is headed to UCLA for sand volleyball.
