Scouting report: First-year coach Rick Feldman understands the type of player he has in Quinten Pounds. “We’re going to try and get the ball in Q’s hands as much as we can,” Feldman said. “He’s a special talent.” While the senior receiver will be the focal point in the spread offense, he’ll also open up opportunities for teammates Taylor Williams, Bobby Brito and Sean Roberts. Senior quarterback Nick Buras proved last season he was plenty capable of spreading the ball around (1,594 yards passing). He also demonstrated an ability to make plays outside the pocket with his feet. Cypress’ defense should also be one of the best in the league. Pounds is a talented cover corner who can shut down one side of the field, and senior linebackers Logan Burt, Ariel Nava and Isiah Apodaca form a solid trio in the middle. With 15 starters returning, Cypress should find its way back into the postseason.
