O.C. PRESEASON TOP 10
1. Mater Dei: The Monarchs return three All-Trinity League first-team players — Jamie Harada, Ashley Nguyen and Kristy Harada — from a team that made it to the WSCGA SoCal Championships for the first time in school history last season.
2. Foothill: Maddie Chou emerged as one of the top players in the county last year during her freshman season (see story). The eight-time medalist helped lead Foothill to a 16-1 record in 2012, making it the most successful season in school history.
3. Edison: The top six players in the lineup are back, including Jennifer Yu, who finished in the top 10 of the CIF-SS Southern Individual Regional.
4. Yorba Linda: Brooke Graebe returns after becoming the first player in school history to qualify for the CIF State Championship. Her even-par 72 at Mile Square Golf Course also helped the Mustangs advance to the SoCal Championships qualifying tournament for the first time.
5. Troy: The Warriors’ strength, as usual, is depth. They have six players who can consistently post nine-hole rounds near 40. Senior team captain Victoria Cha returns for her fourth varsity season.
6. Tesoro: The Titans return five players from a team that finished second at the CIF-SS Southern Team Regional last season.
7. Cypress: Christabelle Kim, a first-team All-Empire League selection, leads the Centurions, who return five players from last season’s six-player starting rotation.
8. Santa Margarita: The Eagles could be ready to challenge Mater Dei for the Trinity League title. They return five seniors, two of whom (Deanna Bird and Annalise Castner) were second-team all-league selections last season.
9. University: The Trojans didn’t lose a player from a team that won the Pacific Coast League title last season.
10. Corona del Mar: The Sea Kings have one of the top sophomores in the county in Amy Matsuoka, the reigning Pacific Coast League MVP who medaled in 13 of her team’s 14 matches last year.
