EDISON CHARGERS
Coach: Dave White (29th year, 211-109-3)
Last season: 9-4 overall, 4-1 league
Scouting report: The Chargers feature several new faces on both sides of the ball but will rely on their standouts and tradition to contend for a fourth consecutive outright league crown. Senior dual-threat Matt Gane starts at quarterback but look for junior Grant Lowary, brother of Mater Dei quarterback Jack Lowary, to also see time. The Chargers’ other top offensive weapons are wide receiver Jake Favreau and running backs Jacob Marines and Manase Time. Edison’s challenge on offense could be overcoming inexperience on the line. The defense is light on returners but is anchored by Time, the league’s reigning defensive player of the year who had 13 sacks last season. Edison is counting on several players from a junior varsity team that went 9-1 last season to contribute. With consecutive nonleague games against Servite and Mater Dei in September, Edison also needs to stay healthy before league begins Oct. 10.
