Hoyt Crance, lacrosse and football

Crance was a four-year letterman in lacrosse and football.

In lacrosse, he was selected to the U.S. Lacrosse All-American team and the U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-American team. He was first team all-county in his senior and junior years and all-county second team his sophomore season.

He received the Gratzinger Award and Scholarship his junior year.

In football, he was all-CIF his senior year and named team captain.

He was All-PCL first team his senior and junior years. A linebacker, he was named defensive player of the year his senior season. He set the Corona del Mar record for most career tackles.

Crance also received National Football Foundation Orange County Chapter scholar-athlete award as a senior. He received the Corona del Mar principal’s award for the highest GPA in his senior year.

Crance said his top memory was “winning the Battle of the Bay football game my senior year at Davidson Field and keeping the Bell at CdM.”

He plans to play lacrosse at Yale University.

“For the past three years Hoyt has been a tremendous leader of our team,” said former football coach Scott Meyer. “He was a very intelligent, tough middle linebacker. Having Hoyt on the field was like having a coach out there leading our defense.”

“Hoyt is one of those rare student-athletes who enriches a team’s huddle,” said lacrosse coach G.W. Mix. “I am honored to have spent the last four years with him. His unique combination of athleticism and intelligence makes him an outstanding player, but his degree of humility and level of integrity make him a terrific leader, a great teammate and a remarkable young man.”

Brianna Westrup, soccer and basketball

Westrup competed in soccer her sophomore and junior years and basketball her senior year.

She and her water polo teammates were CIF finalists.

In soccer, she was second team all-league.

In basketball, Westrup was first team all-league and all-tournament at the CdM Tip-off Classic.

Westrup also excelled in the classroom and was a California Scholastic Federation gold seal bearer.

She described her most memorable athletic experience as “scoring the winning penalty kick in the CIF second round (playoff) soccer game.”

Westrup has received a scholarship to play soccer at University of Virginia.

“Brianna had an amazing year,” said basketball coach Mark Decker. “Her first year playing high school basketball she helped lead our team to a league title, and a CIF semi-final appearance. She was first team all-league and the best defensive player in the league. Her enthusiasm, positive energy and hard work was an invaluable addition to our team.”

“CdM girls soccer soccer greatly appreciates the time Brianna spent with the girls soccer program and wishes her the best of luck with the University of Virginia women’s soccer program,” said soccer coach Bryan Middleton.
