Foothill High’s girls water polo team advanced to Wednesday’s CIF-Southern Section Division 1 semifinals with an 11-7 win over Dos Pueblos on Saturday.

The Knights were to play No. 1 seed and No. 1-ranked Laguna Beach. The score was not available.

Against Dos Pueblos, Noelle Wijnbelt and Lana Gorlinski each scored four goals to lead the host Knights (23-6). Foothill coach Jim Brumm praised the defense of Grace Pevehouse on Ryann Neushul (who also scored a goal) and Brooke Maxson on Abbi Hill.

“We played very good defense,” Brumm said.

In Division 6, Tustin lost to Cabrillo of Lompoc, 14-4, on Saturday. Hannah Binder scored three times for the host Tillers (12-6).

“Great season,” Tustin coach Molly Andrews said. “Next year will be even better.”

Tustin had advanced to the second round with a 9-8 victory over Mayfield on Feb. 18. The Tillers outscored Mayfield, 4-3, in the final quarter.

Dana Twisk scored five goals and Binder had four goals to lead Tustin. Goalkeeper Kalypso Fish had 12 saves.
