MISSION VIEJO – Capistrano Valley defeated Sea View League rival San Juan Hills, 24-7, on Friday to keep its CIF-SS playoff hopes alive at Capistrano Valley High.

The Cougars (7-2, 2-1) moved into a tie for second place in league with Dana Hills. They can earn a share of the league title with a victory over Aliso Niguel in their regular-season finale on Friday.

Capo Valley got on the scoreboard when sophomore Adam Gordon returned a blocked field goal 80 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.

Stallions junior quarterback Jacob Gibson threw a costly interception in the second quarter, and the Cougars capitalized with a 1-yard touchdown run by senior running back Joey Beaumont.

In the third quarter, the Stallions (7-2, 1-2) responded with a 31-yard touchdown strike from Gibson to Kyle Mucerino.

Despite a good performance by Gibson, who threw for 307 yards, the Stallions weren’t able to come to life late in the game.

Capo Valley quarterback Mason Dossey threw for 146 yards on 14-of-23 passing.

The Cougars will take on Aliso Niguel (0-3 in the Sea View League) next week and Dana Hills will play San Juan Hills.
