    Wrestling: Jeremy Thomas, Liam Cronin to compete at Junior Duals

    Calvary Chapel's Jeremy Thomas (170 pounds) and Servite's Liam Cronin (120) are competing with Team California at the upcoming USA Junior Duals.

    Both Thomas and Cronin are on the Freestyle team. There is also a Greco-Roman team.

    Competition begins Wednesday in Oklahoma.

    Wrestling: New date, location for Asics SoCal Challenge

    The Asics SoCal Challenge is usually one of the first tournaments after the Christmas/New Year's break.

    Next wrestling season, it will have a new date and location.

    It is moving to December and to Next Level Sports Complex in Garden Grove (12821 Knott St.).

    The tournament has been at Godinez and Tustin for the past three years.

    The size of the tournament appears to be a reason for the switch.

    Wrestling: Five Santa Ana wrestlers headed to same college

    Santa Ana's Ed Anguiano, Alex Blanco, Ricky Navarette, German Prudencio and Miguel Ramos are all heaed to Western Wyoming College to wrestle.

    All five helped lead Santa Ana to a CIF title this season.

    Navarette (126) was a first-team all-county. He was a CIF champion, fourth at Masters and went 3-2 at the state tournament.

    Anguiano (heavyweight) and Blanco (220) were second team all-county. Ramos (132) was third team. Prudencio was third at 138 pounds at CIF.

    Western Wyoming College is coached by Art Castillo.

    Wrestling: Capistrano Valley's Hernandez signs

    Capistrano Valley's Brandon Hernandez signed with Jamestown University of North Dakota this week.

    Over the last three years, Hernandez posted a sixth, second and first-place finishes at CIF. He was first team all-county as a junior.

    Wrestling: San Clemente's Tyler Meisinger makes college decision

    San Clemente senior Tyler Meisinger is headed to the University of Michigan, Tritons coach Mark Calentino confirmed in an email.

    Meisinger, who finished fourth at the CIF State tournament, is a two-time CIF champion. He also won seven tournaments, five of them he earned Outstanding Wrestler honors.

    Wrestling: O.C. wrestlers headed to NHSCA Nationals

    This year's NHSCA Nationals get underway Friday in Virginia Beach.

    Servite’s Liam Cronin (113), Canyon’s Ethyn Ewing (138), San Clemente’s Tyler Meisinger (152) and Trabuco Hills’ Lukas Howa (170) are in the Senior Nationals.

    Laguna Hills’ Anthony Le (120) and Capistrano Valley’s Gerado Hernandez (182) are scheduled to be in the Junior and Sophomore Nationals, respectively.

    Trent Munoz (Trabuco Hills, 106) is in the Freshman Division.

    Wrestling: Fountain Valley trio headed to Flo Nationals

    Fountain Valley's Blake Vasquez (165), Merrick O'Donnell (165) and heavyweight Cole Brisbine will compete at this year's Flo Nationals, starting Thursday.

    Former Fountain Valley wrestler Andrew Morgan (Cal Poly) is on the trip to help coach.

    This year's tournament is taking place Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

    The tournament is double elimination. There is five-pound weight allowance, so add five pounds to each of the high school weights.

    Wrestling: Former Calvary Chapel star Morgan McIntosh preps for NCAAs

    Penn State 197-pound Morgan McIntosh (Calvary Chapel HS) is the top seed at his weight heading into the start of the NCAA Championships, Thursday in New York.

    McIntosh, who was a four-time state medalist and three-time state champion for Calvary Chapel, is a two-time All-American for the Nittany Lions. He was seventh as a sophomore and third last season.

    Wrestling begins Thursday at 9 a.m.

    Wrestling: Jeremy Thomas meets friend Anthony Mantanona in finals

    Calvary Chapel's Jeremy Thomas will meet close friend Anthony Mantanona in the 170-pound final later tonight. Mantanona beat Thomas last week in the finals at Masters.

    Here is what Thomas said Friday night about the possibility of meeting Mantanona again:

    "We’re best friends, but it doesn’t really matter on the mat. People may say I gave him too much respect (last week) …we’re friends off the mat, we’re not friends on the mat. We’ll go at it every single time. It could be a different outcome but I’m definitely gunning for that first place....

    "It’s just a couple of technical areas that I can fix. It is just another wrestling match, we’ve wrestled are whole lives together. It is like wrestling a friend, you wrestle everyday.
