In a pregame huddle right before Huntington Beach's game against Fountain Valley, Oilers players were telling each other that they weren't a last-place team.
Huntington Beach had just come off a 42-point loss to Edison and was facing a 5-1 Fountain Valley team.
The Oilers played sloppily and fell into a last place tie in the Sunset League with Marina in a 19-14 loss to the Barons. Huntington Beach coach Eric Lo called it the low point of the season.
Since that point that last-place team has turned into a well-run outfit as the Oilers (6-5) have gone 3-1 in the past four games.
The past two victories have come in dominating fashion. Huntington Beach throttled Newport Harbor, 40-14, in the last week of the regular season. The triumph essentially put the Oilers in the CIF-SS Southwest Division playoffs.>>>>> Read the rest of this entry »
