OCVarsity’s Jeremy Balan makes five predictions about the Southern Division playoffs:
1. Which four teams will make it to the Southern semifinals? Garden Grove, Estancia, Canyon, Westminster.
Garden Grove might have a harder time with Brea Olinda than expected, but still advances.
2. Which team will win the Southern title? Garden Grove.
With Corona del Mar out of the division, this is the Arganauts’ title to lose, but Canyon will provide tough competition in the final.
3. Which team will be the “surprise team” in the Southern? Canyon.
The Comanches, on a four-game winning streak might just keep rolling to the championship game.
4. Which player will be the postseason MVP in the Southern? Jordan Antunez, Garden Grove.
The sophomore will get to show what he’s got against good competition and should excel.
5. Which O.C. player shouldn’t be overlooked in the Southern playoffs? Moby Contreras, Los Amigos.
He didn’t get 2,000 yards rushing by accident. If the Lobos make a run, he’ll be carrying most of the load.
