Coaches’ predicted finish

1. WOODBRIDGE: With three starters back, the Warriors are picked to finish on top of a balanced league.

2. FOOTHILL: Plenty of experienced players return, making the Knights a top contender.

3. NEWPORT HARBOR: Not as many returning starters as Woodbridge and Foothill, but still should be in the upper half of the standings.

4. ALISO NIGUEL: Last year’s county player of the year, Michael Roll, graduated so the Wolverines are in rebuilding mode.

5. LAGUNA HILLS: Probably a couple of notches below the rest of the league.

6. IRVINE: Vaqueros have new coach, and still are in state of rebuilding the program.

Last year’s standings: 1. Aliso Niguel (28-3 overall, 10-0 league); 2. Newport Harbor (17-10, 8-2); 3. Woodbridge (14-14, 5-5); 4. (tie) Foothill (12-16, 3-7); Laguna Hills (6-19, 3-7); 6. Irvine (2-23, 1-9). … Aliso Niguel won the CIF-Southern Section Division I-A championship last season. The Wolverines beat El Toro, 67-60, in the championship game. Aliso’s Michael Roll, now at UCLA, was the Register’s Player of the Year. … Woodbridge coach John Halagan expects a competitive race for the league championship. “Like everybody,” he said, “we have a couple of returning starters. I would expect Newport Harbor, Foothill and ourselves to be in the top tier. Aliso Niguel, when they get all of their football guys back, should be pretty good, too. Aliso is going to be a very athletic team.” … Kraushaar was All-Sea View League first team last season. Feicht and Daye were all-league second team. … Fullmer was team co-most valuable player last season. Banales was all-league second team. Coach Rusty Van Cleave expects plenty of scoring from Spencer, who played only eight games last season because of injury. Spencer averaged 22 points during the summer. … Newport Harbor has only one starter returning, Heenan, but six others who played some last season. Heenan is son of former Cal State Fullerton forward Kevin Heenan. … Irvine had a new coach, Kris Klamberg.
