Josh Webb is the three-in-one oil that keeps the Garden Grove Argonauts football machine operating so well.

Webb has the amazing capability of playing quarterback, running back and wide receiver as well as anyone can play one of those positions.

Still, even more interesting, he is among the top 10 players in points scored with 105 on 17 touchdowns and he’s also among the top rushers (557 yards)and receivers in Orange County as well.

He is often compared to last season’s Garden Grove quarterback Sean Young, who was the Garden Grove League MVP in his senior season, but Argonauts’ coach Willy Puga, who has seen them both, thinks that Webb is much more versatile.

“Sean was just the quarterback,” Puga pointed out. “We have a multiple, spread offensethis year which allows Josh to run with the ball or toss it back to another player. He has caught passes and had some big runs for us. We even run him in the I-formation.”

Webb is quite the running quarterback (who really doesn’t care for being in a pocket), and a running back when he is called upon., but receiving passes is really his forte.

“I like playing quarterback the most,” Webb conceded. “I get to run the ball a lot from the quarterback position. I use a little speed and my muscle to get the yards that I need. But, the best thing I do is receiving the ball on a pass.”

Webb has also returned a punt for a touchdown this year, but he says nobody will kick it to him anymore. Last season, he only played on the special teams unit, so you can imagine how excited he is to be starting just about everywhere for the CIF Southern Division number one-ranked Argonauts.

“I think Garden Grove is going all the way to the CIF finals this year,” Webb declared. Everyone on this team has a lot of heart. They don’t ever give up. We’ve got a really good team.”

After Webb graduates, he will attending Mt. San Antonio College, to study law enforcement. In football, he expects he’ll have to settle down and play only one position …. wide receiver.
