Jim Brumm has been the glue of Foothill’s boys water polo and swim programs for years, now he will share his expertise with members of the US Men’s Water Polo team in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

His role might be a little different, but his impact should be the same.

How were you selected as a member of the coaching staff?

I really don’t know (with a chuckle). One of the coaches on the staff is an ex-player (Ryan Brown) of mine and I think that might have had something to do with it.

I did some work for them last year with their video work and scouting.

What is your role on the team now?

I video tape all the games and then from the video taping I try to work on scouting …Putting together a scouting report together on the other teams and then getting those to the coaches on our staff.

How have you helped out the team this summer?

I was gone most of this summer over at the European Championships scouting and video taping those teams.

It has definitely been a learning experience.

Are you happy to be reunited with some of your old players like J.W. Krumpholz and Brian Alexander?

Yeah it’s been really neat. They have been doing a really nice job with the team. It’s great to see those guys playing together.

Are you surprised that there were two former Foothill water polo players selected to join the Olympic team?

There are a lot of good ones that have never made the team because of the timing and other things, but it’s nice to see that Brittany Hayes (Women’s Water Polo team) and J.W. are on the squad.

You can almost see it in those two players because they have always been very competitive and goal driven.

What is this experience going to mean to you?

Not too many people get an opportunity like this. It’s kind of like a life long dream that has finally become true.
