Northwood High’s boys soccer team continued to struggle Friday afternoon, dropping a 2-0 Sea View League decision to Foothill at Hillview High in Tustin.

The Timberwolves are winless in three league games and 5-10-1 overall.

Foothill (1-2, 5-5-3) scored two goals, both by John Joslin in the first half, then held off the Timberwolves in the second half.

Northwood played without Steven Birnbaum (concussion) and Mike Hillman (knee).

The Timberwolves didn’t have a lot of depth coming into the season.

“We’re just a young team,” Northwood Coach Barry Bandaruk said. “Both goalkeepers are freshmen and we have a starting defense which is primarily underclassmen.

“We just didn’t have a lot of varsity experience coming into this thing. But the kids are a lot of fun, they’re trying. It’s just going to be one of those years.”

Foothill has also had a tough time this year, but was able to put together a solid performance Friday.

“This is a tough league this year,” said Foothill Coach Barry Turner. “We have four teams in the league that are ranked in the top 10 in Orange County.

“It makes it difficult, but there is a good spirit with our boys.”
