Because we love rankings, and because everyone has an opinion, we asked several of our OCVarsity reporters to give us their rankings and opinions of the county’s top student sections for boys basketball.

Here are Damian Calhoun’s top three (and some of this other favorites):

1. CANYON: I was leaning toward Servite’s “Asylum” for the No. 1 spot, but after “The Tribe’s” USA theme night with the section dressed out in red, white and blue like the American flag, that was it for me and I decided to #VibeWithTheTribe for the No. 1 spot. The support on the road has also been impressive, taking over rival gyms throughout the Crestview League. Also, who can forget the photo of the Brea Olinda student section crowd with the caption “Where dey at doe?”

2. SERVITE: For me, the difference between first and second place is miniscule. Pound-for-pound The Asylum might be the top section in the county. One of the better moments of the season for me came during the road game at Orange Lutheran. Somehow, an Asylum member worked his way into the Orange Lutheran section. After the rest of the Asylum started chanting “Where is (the name escapes me)” he popped up across the court in the Lancers section. He was eventually led back across the court to join his Asylum brothers.

3. ESPERANZA: “The 6th Man” should get starter recognition from anybody that’s seen the group in action. Also, tip of cap for the 80’s workout theme from earlier this season. The 6th Man has been strong all year and you have to be when you’re competing against all of the top-notch sections in the Crestview League.

Calhoun’s other favorites: Foothill (“The Dungeon”); Sonora (“The Jungle”); Los Alamitos (“Los Savages”).
