    OCVarsity Pickapalooza Deathmatch: Week 4

September 19th, 2012, 2:33 pm by CARLOS ARIAS

The Los Art and Memorabilia Collection has taken two big hits the past two weeks, so it's time to come back hard in this week's OCVarsity Pickapalooza Deathmatch.

Capo Valley fell to Esperanza, which cost me my priceless Party Time Pop Star Hannah Montana guitar clock, and Servite was defeated by Edison, costing me Thor's hammer. Obviously, the stakes are high in OCVarsity Pickapalooza Deathmatches and I can't afford to continue having the Los Art and Memorabilia Collection plundered. It's time for me to start doing the plundering once again.

This is a decisive week in OCVarsity Pickapalooza Deathmatch history, so I decided to target my arch nemesis. That's right, this week I will take on OCVarsity's Damian Calhoun, the man behind "The Calhoun Countdown."

Luke Skywalker had Darth Vader, Daniel Larusso had Johnny Lawrence, Batman had The Joker, the Roadrunner had Wile E. Coyote, Coke had Pepsi, Sean Archer had Castor Troy, Neo had Agent Smith, Beatrix Kiddo vs. Bill, and I have D.C.

This bitter blood feud shall be settled as all bitter blood feuds are settled ... in the OCVarsity Pickapalooza Deathmatch Octagon. This week's OCVarsity Pickapalooza Deathmatch game is Bolsa Grande at Ocean View on Friday at 7 p.m.

Boys volleyball: The wild night in the Meruelo Athletic Center

April 27th, 2012, 12:15 am by Damian Calhoun

Servite. Mater Dei. Trinity League title on the line.

You just knew that it would be a memorable match and it was.

Servite rallied from a 9-5 deficit in the fifth game, tied the Monarchs at 12-12 and would eventually win the game and the match.

The victory gave the Friars their first league title since 1999, when they were in the Golden West League. I can't even imagine Servite in the Golden West League.

    This match had it all.

April 3rd, 2012, 1:22 pm by Damian Calhoun

Another big night of action on the court. Here is a quick look at what's on tap.

No. 7 Dana Hills plays host to No. 2 San Clemente: The teams have split their season series in each of the previous two seasons, and in both seasons, the Dolphins have gone on to win the South Coast League title. Both teams are 3-0 in the league.

No. 5 Newport Harbor visits No. 4 Huntington Beach: Both teams are 3-0, but it took the Sailors a while to get there. Newport Harbor had to rally from an 0-2 hole to defeat Los Alamitos in five last Friday. Meanwhile, the Oilers have swept their three matches.

Also on the schedule: No. 1 Servite at No. 10 Santa Margarita. The Friars went 3-0 last week, sweeping St. John Bosco and Mater Dei before rallying to defeat Redondo in five. The Eagles went 1-1, defeating JSerra in four and losing to St. John Bosco in five. Servite has a two-match lead over Santa Margarita and St. John Bosco (2-2) in the Trinity League. Can anybody catch the Friars.

JSerra at No. 8 Mater Dei: Talk about a big match. The Monarchs , who went 0-2 last week will host JSerra tonight. The Lions are 1-3, their league victory came against Orange Lutheran, one match after the Lancers had defeated the Monarchs.
