Coast View Athletic Association league memberships change every two school years.
For the 2022 football season Capistrano Valley has moved from the Sea View League to the South Coast League, and San Juan Hills has moved from the South Coast League to the Sea View. It’s a trade of places in the CVAA’s two leagues in every sport every two years – the best team in the Sea View League moves to the South Coast League while the worst team in the South Coast League moves to the Sea View.
The previous two seasons’ worth of league results decides which teams switch leagues.
Here is how it worked in the Capistrano Valley-San Juan Hills swap …
Capistrano Valley was 3-0 in the Sea View League in 2020 and was 2-1 in league in 2021. Its 5-1 record over the two football seasons was the best in the Sea View League, making Capistrano Valley the team to go to the South Coast League.
San Juan Hills and Tesoro both were 1-5 in the South Coast League over the ’20 and ’21 seasons. So the next step was to look at how their lower-level football teams fared in league play. Tesoro was better there, so Tesoro remains in the South Coast League and San Juan Hills goes to the Sea View for the 2022 season.
The CVAA is an eight-school conference. Its members are Aliso Niguel, Capistrano Valley, El Toro, Mission Viejo, San Clemente, San Juan Hills, Tesoro and Trabuco Hills.
