In a span of a week Beckman’s boys soccer team went from pretenders to contenders in the Pacific Coast League.

With wins over Irvine, 1-0, Corona del Mar, 2-0, and Laguna Hills, 2-1, the Patriots now control their own destiny in their quest for a CIF playoff bid.

The sudden turnaround can be credited to the play of Beckman’s defense line – Jason Bunnell, Brock Sanquist, Jimmy Shiba and Aaron Messmer.

“They are the reason we have been a successful team all season long,” Beckman Coach Brad Bohn said. “They have a lot of heart and desire to keep the other team out of the goal.”

The Patriots (9-8-4, 3-3-1) need to get past one more win to secure a playoff bid.

Beckman season playoff hopes will be on the line at Las Lomas Park on Thursday when it takes on University High at 3:15 p.m.
