Zeller scores school-record 50 in Mission Viejo romp
IRVINE - Mission Viejo forward Evan Zeller poured in a school record 50 points to lead the No. 2-ranked Diablos to a 115-50 victory over University in a pool game game of the Irvine World News Gary Raya Classic Tuesday evening at University.
The total broke the previous record of 49 points held by Travis Niesen in 2002, according to Coach Troy Roelen.
Zeller made 23 of 30 field goals in three quarters. He did not play in the fourth quarter with his team leading 94-37 going into the final stanza.
"He was really unselfish," Roelen said. "If was like a quiet 50 it seems because everything was so easy in transition on lay-ups."
The 6-foot-5 Zeller made one 3-pointer and 1 of 2 free throws.
"It's a great feeling," Zeller said of the record. "Points are points, but the most important thing is getting the win and not getting hurt and we did a good job."
