Amazing performances happen on a regular basis in Orange County, where some of the top high school athletes in the country put their talent to use.

And as the end of the school year approaches, it's time to begin determining the best of the best.

OCVarsity.com will announce its choices for the boys and girls athletes of the year June 10, but now we're asking high school sports fans to make their picks. The fans' choices then will receive a vote when the ocvarsity.com staff gathers to make its selections.

We took your suggestions and our observations to choose eight finalists for the competition (just because someone isn't a finalist for this competition does not mean he or she is out of consideration for our awards). Then we randomly created matchups for you to vote on in the first of three rounds.

The first round will last until Friday at 6 p.m., and the second round will begin Saturday morning.
