Los Alamitos wins but streak ends
Marina-Los Alamitos recap.
WESTMINSTER Los Alamitos’ 56-7 victory over host Marina at Westminster High on Friday was perhaps the most bittersweet moment for the Griffins in the past 23 years.
Even a 28-point first quarter couldn’t get them in the playoffs. Nothing could.
“We should be there,” Coach John Barnes said, “but they are giving Santa Margarita the wild card. I don’t make those decisions. If we had won one of our last two (previous games), we’d be there.”
Junior Clark Evans threw for 116 yards and three TDs and ran for 90 yards and two more scores in a quarter and a half before giving way to senior Joey Kagan (235 yards, 3 TDs).
“It hurts,” Evans said. “We have a long tradition of going to the playoffs. Next year will be the year.”
Camren Connors had two TD catches for the Griffins (7-3, 3-2). Zach Couey had 151 yards passing for the Vikings (3-7, 0-5).
