Matadors rally to win

Special to OCVarsity.com

GARDEN GROVE Bolsa Grande survived a scare on Friday, narrowly escaping with a 28-21 victory over La Quinta in a Garden Grove League game at Bolsa Grande Stadium.

Bolsa Grande's Xavier Mitchell rushed 23 times for 162 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Matadors.

Mitchell scored three of his touchdowns in the fourth quarter to spark Bolsa Grande (1-3, 1-6). Mitchell wore down the Aztecs defense with TD runs of 27, 4 and 37 yards. His last TD of 12 yards with 1:26 to play put the Matadors on top 26-21.

Ryan Lolin ran for the 2-point conversion. The Matadors defense made it stand by forcing a fumble on La Quinta’s 36-yard line.

Nathan Do of La Quinta (0-4, 0-9) rushed 16 times for 135 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 60 yards.
