Westminster wins fifth consecutive league title
Westminster defeats Ocean View, 48-19.
The Lions (7-3, 5-0) were victorious on the strengths of receiver Aaron Garbutt,who was used primarily as a running back against the Seahawks (4-6, 1-4). Garbutt rushed for 194 yards on 14 carries and four touchdowns.
Garbutt had 133 rushing yards on nine carries and three touchdowns in the first half.
Quarterback Kenny Chapple added to the onslaught by completing 14 of 23 passes for 195 yards. Chapple also rushed for a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Michael Luu, who had 61 receiving yards on 5 receptions.
The Lions, who allowed the Seahawks only one first down and 22 yards of total offense in the first half, now turn their attention to the playoffs that start next week.
“This is a fairly matched division and anything can happen,” Lions coach Ted McMillen said. “Every game will be tough. We are proud to be in it.”
