ANAHEIM - For the second consecutive year, Western was able to walk out of Glover Stadium ringing the coveted bell.

Unlike last year’s finish, the Pioneers needed no late heroics to claim the bell. They controlled the game from the first play and defeated rival Anaheim, 38-0, on Friday night in an Orange League game.

Western running back Mookie Cooksie rushed for a career-high 216 yards on nine carries. He took the Pioneers’ first offensive play 74 yards for a touchdown and compiled 145 yards in the first quarter.

The victory also clinches a playoff spot for Western (7-2, 4-0) as well as at least a share of the league title.

Anaheim (5-4, 2-2) struggled on both sides of the ball. Defensively, the Colonists allowed 365 yards on the ground, while the offense produced just 114 total yards.
