LA MIRADA - Robbie Picazo threw two touchdown passes and ran for one, and Zach Mitchell added three scores to lead No. 9 Tesoro to a 57-21 victory over La Mirada in a nonleague game Friday evening at La Mirada High.

Preston King scored twice, had two interceptions and four receptions as the Titans scored four times in the first nine minutes of the game to take a 29-0, lead.

“Our line blew open huge holes and gave me a lot of time to throw,” said Picazo, who completed 8 of 11 passes for 191 yards. “We knew we had a big game like this in us.”

In the first quarter, Picazo threw a 37-yard TD pass to Brett Gudim (four catches for 131 yards) on the fifth play of the game.

On the Matadores’ first play from scrimmage, King intercepted a pass and returned it 38 yards for a score. Moments later King hauled in a 20-yard TD pass from Picazo. Mitchell then added a 14-yard TD run.

Picazo, Isaac Tago and Mitchell added TD runs in the second quarter as Tesoro (1-0) led, 50-0, at halftime. Mitchell also had a 92-yard kickoff return for a TD.

The Titans’ defense, led by King and Scott Graves, forced two turnovers and limited La Mirada (0-1) to 41 yards of total offense in the opening half.

Daniel Poncedeleon completed 17 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns for the Matadores.
