Comanches rout Saints
Canyon 46, Santa Ana 3
Josh Hawkins rushed for 251 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries to lead Canyon to a 46-3 nonleague victory over Santa Ana Thursday at El Modena High.
Hawkins scored on second-quarter runs of 1 and 9 yards and a third-quarter 97-yard touchdown run down the right sideline.
The Comanches (3-0) scored the first time they touched the ball when Christen Daniel returned a first-quarter punt 56 yards for a touchdown to put Canyon up 7-0.
Daniel finished with 133 return yards, including a second-quarter punt return of 35 yards that set up Hawkins' second touchdown.
Adam Salinas turned in a workmanlike performance for Santa Ana (1-2), carrying 44 times for 137 yards.
The Saints' cheerleaders displayed a banner before the game that read, “Stay strong for John,” paying tribute to Canyon linebacker John Boyd, who has leukemia.
