Nacoste TD lifts Santa Ana Valley beats Anaheim
Game played at Glover Stadium.
ANAHEIM - Darius Narcoste caught a touchdown pass and rushed for two other scores, including the winner with 35 seconds left, to propel Santa Ana Valley past Anaheim, 30-24, in an Orange League game Friday at Glover Stadium.
Narcoste broke a 58-yard run on third-and-9 with less than two minutes to play and scored three plays later from 10 yards out on a run to the outside to give the Falcons (4-3, 2-0) the lead.
Anaheim (4-3, 1-1) tried to rally with three consecutive passes from Luis Reyna to Luis Amaya that brought the Colonists to the Falcons' 30-yard line, but Reyna was hit on the final play for an incomplete pass.
"I was just thinking, 'I have to get this for the team. We have to win this game," said Narcoste, who finished with 153 yards rushing and 63 receiving. "We're shooting for league champs this year and this is the team we had to beat."
Jesse Aguilar's 34-yard field goal in the third quarter gave the Colonists a 24-22 lead but bad snap on a punt on their following possession trickled in the end zone for a safety.
After battling for field possession and key defensive plays on each team, Valley drove from their own 21-yard with 2:06remaining on winning drive.
Carlos Acevedo led Valley with 10 for 17 passing for 140 yards and a two scores.
Reyna completed 10 for 13 passes for 188 yards and added a 1-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter.
