GARDEN GROVE- A punishing rushing attack and five takeaways powered Orange to its first victory, 35-21, over Rancho Alamitos at Bolsa Grande High School on Friday.
Panthers quarterback Edgar Bejarano ran for two touchdowns and hit Alfredo Carrillo on a 66-yard strike for a third. Eric Manzo rushed for 73 yards.
Orange (1-4) allowed just 210 yards of offense to the Vaqueros (2-3), who sacked quarterback Mike Frank three times before he was pulled because of a possible head injury, and recovered three fumbles. Frank had a 15-yard TD scramble, and Peter Pham scored on 5- and 3-yard runs.
Rancho Alamitos offensive lineman Brian Taylor briefly lost consciousness blocking on a punt return midway through the third quarter and was taken by ambulance to St Joseph Hospital for further evaluation, a school official said.
