Walnut runs over Sonora
Sonora vs. Walnut
LA HABRA- Walnut's Leonard Rhodes rushed for five touchdowns while compiling 148 yards on 14 carries to surge the Mustangs past host Sonora, 47-13, Friday night in a nonleague game at La Habra High.
The Raiders (2-3) suffered their third consecutive loss heading into Freeway League play next week against La Habra.
"The reason we scheduled this game was to play against the spread offense," Sonora coach Paul Chiotti said. "Teams in our league run the spread and we need to do a better job of tackling."
Walnut scored on its first four offensive possessions, taking control of the ball three times in Raiders territory to take 26-6 halftime lead.
Trailing 7-0 early in the first, the Raiders responded with a 60-yard scoring drive. Jeffrey Keichline's 42-yard run put the ball on the Mustangs 7-yard line. Teammate Randy Vorick concluded the drive with a 7-yard TD run, making the score 7-6.
Vorick was Sonora's leading rusher, collecting 60 yards on 14 carries as well as recovering a fumble in the third quarter.
Raiders QB Chaz Woxland had a 20-yard TD run.
