Brea Olinda struggles
Diamond Bar 32, Brea Olinda 13
Two things will likely pound in Brea Olinda coach Robb Perrance’s brain this week: the phrase “roughing the kicker” and the 95-yard kick return by Diamond Bar’s Kyle Warren that opened the second half and turned a two-point game into a lopsided defeat.
“We didn’t play very smart,” said Perrance following his team’s 32-13 nonleague loss to the visiting Brahmas on Thursday. “Our kids are much better than they showed.”
Brea’s special teams had five roughing-the-kicker penalties on extra-point attempts. Three in one sequence set up Diamond Bar (2-2) for a two-point conversion and a 15-13 lead at halftime.
The Wildcats (1-3) were not nearly as opportunistic with the Brahmas’ 93 penalty yards as they were stopping Diamond Bar’s nine-play, 52-yard opening drive.
The Wildcats forced a fumble on their 2-yard line, marched 98 yards down the field and took their only lead on Frankie Gonyea’s31-yard TD run.
