O.C. wrestlers keep state title hopes alive
The CIF-SS wrestling Masters Meet will resume Saturday at 10 a.m. at Temecula Valley with several county wrestlers looking to book their trips to Bakersfield.
There are 19 wrestlers alive in the fourth round of consolation that will begin the day at 10 a.m.
Losers in this round will drop down to the four-man ninth-place bracket.
There are 18 county wrestlers that advanced to the championship semifinals that will get underway at 11 a.m.
The top nine wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the CIF State Tournament, March 4-5 in Bakersfield at Rabobank Arena.
Matt Nader (Canyon, 112), Blake Lowrie (Laguna Hills, 125), Alex Anunciation (Marina, 130), Mike Longo (Laguna Hills, 130), Servite's Luke McDonald (135), Edison's Cameron Bustos (152), Gianpier Yanez (152), Edison's Greg Meline (160), Austin Bakker (Los Alamitos, 160), Calvary Chapel's Tank Knowles (215) and Servite's Wyatt Baker (heavyweight) all went 3-0 on the first day.
There are some matchups between county wrestlers that hit the mats early today.
In the consolation bracket at 103, Gordon McDonald (Calvary Chapel) will face Gary Howe (Los Alamitos). In the semifinals at 130, Anunciation will face Longo. At 145, Daniel Weinberg (Mater Dei) will take on Bryan Seefried of Dana Hills and in the semifinals at 160, Sunset League foes Greg Meline (Edison) will meet Austin Bakker (Los Alamitos).
