Woodbridge rolls over Northwood this time

IRVINE - Woodbridge settled the issue early Thursday night in the Sea View League opener against Northwood, defeating the Timberwolves, 53-28, in girls basketball at Woodbridge.

The two teams met Dec. 30 in the championship game of the Arroyo Grande Tournament with Woodbridge winning, 64-59, in overtime.

The rematch didn't have nearly as much suspense.

The sixth-ranked Warriors jumped out to a 14-2 lead after one quarter and held a 33-11 lead at halftime before coasting to their eighth victory in a row.

“They had a rough night,” Woodbridge coach Eric Bangs said. “They were a little disjointed and didn't shoot the ball real well. But thank goodness our girls capitalized on it and put the pedal down and didn't feel sorry for them.

“We're just really fortunate that we're 1-0 to start league.”

Woodbridge (15-1) had a balanced scoring attack, led by Julie Walton, who scored 13 points and made three 3-pointers.

Jordan Sanchez added 11 points and Ashley Ward and Erin Beadle had 10 points each for Woodbridge.

“The better team won. They did a good job, they outplayed us, they outcoached us,” Northwood coach J.C. Clarke said. “Give them credit.”

Bhavna Chadalavada led Northwood (12-5 overall) with 10 points, but she was held to four points in the first half.
