Campos' big shot helps Aliso Niguel top Tesoro
LAS FLORES – Aliso Niguel's Mauricio Campos had struggled to find his usually reliable 3-point shot for most of Friday night's South Coast League contest against Tesoro. But with the game tied and just less than minute to play, point guard Scott Lynds didn't think twice to kick out the ball to the sharp shooter in the right corner.
Campos hit the 3-pointer — his first of the game — giving the Wolverines the lead and eventually a 71-66 victory at Tesoro High.
"I drove in, I knew they were going to come in on me," Lynds said. "And I saw Mauricio in the corner wide open. He's one of our best 3-point shooters so he knocked it down."
With a typical shooter's mentality, Campos said he had full confidence despite missing his previous two attempts from behind the arc and coming off the bench just before the big shot.
"I'm a shooter so that's what I do," he said.

A quick basket drew the Titans within one, but the Wolverines (19-6, 4-2) made all four of their free throws down the stretch to clinch the come-from-behind victory.
Lynds led the Wolverines with 21 points after a slow start.
Tesoro's Tanner Lancona led all scorers with 28 points. In addition to working inside, the senior made a game-high four 3-pointers.
The Titans led by eight at halftime thanks in large part to 17 points from Lancona, whom Aliso Niguel coach Keith Barnett called a "fantastic player."
Tesoro (17-7, 1-4) led by as many as 10 in the third quarter, but the Wolverines clawed back into the game.
"I'm really proud of these guys. It's a tough place to play in here, they've got great fans. My guys just never quit," Barnett said.
The teams traded leads down the stretch until Campos put the Wolverines ahead for good.
