WHITTIER - Sophomore Stephen Anderson came off the bench and played a strong second half to lead Whittier Christian and its new-look offense to a 35-9 victory over Cochrane (Canada).
Anderson replaced injured quarterback Taylor Smith to start the second half for the Heralds and went 5-for-5 passing with three touchdowns, with two of them going to Jordan Chavira-Pearman, including a 64-yard toss on his second pass of the game.
The Heralds made a drastic switch from the run-oriented offense of the past few years to a shot-gun and no-huddle offense. The new offense struggled to start the game, as the Heralds went scoreless in the first quarter, but they finally got going in the second quarter, using two Marc Edwards touchdown runs to take a 14-3 halftime lead.
Edwards finished with a game-high 102 yards rushing and Chavira-Pearman led the Heralds with 91 yards receiving.
