Heralds dominate

Special to OCVarsity.com

WHITTIER Marc Edwards rushed for more than 200 yards for the second consecutive game and the Whittier Christian defense dominated in a 21-0 victory over Downey Calvary Chapel in an Alpha League game Friday.

Edwards scored on a 91-yard run on the first play from scrimmage and later added a 23-yard touchdown run in the first quarter as the Heralds built a 14-0 lead. Edwards ran for 153 of his 204 yards in the first quarter for the Heralds (4-2, 2-0).

The rest of the game was dominated by both defenses, with the only other score coming in early in the fourth quarter when Brett Esslinger threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Phil Hughes.

The Heralds held the Grizzlies (4-2, 0-2) to only 52 yards of offense in the first half and then came back with an even more dominating performance in the second half, allowing just 12 yards of offense.
