FOR OCVARSITY.COM

VILLA PARK - El Toro advanced in the CIF-SS Division 1A playoffs Monday night by defeating Villa Park, 25-17, 25-20, 25-13, in a wild-card match at Villa Park.

The Chargers (12-10) got off to a quick start in Game 1, leading 11-7 at the first break. Chargers outside hitter Kristey Markle led the way in the first game with three kills.

The Chargers didn't let the Spartans (12-13) get closer than four points the rest of the set.

The second set produced more of the same as the Chargers raced out to a 9-3 lead. The Spartans closed within 20-16, but senior setter Cassie Fields came up with a huge kill and the Chargers went on to win the game, 25-20.

The Chargers never trailed in the third game. They got off to an 11-5 lead at the break, and the Spartans never got closer than six points the rest of the way.

Markle led the Chargers with 12 kills.

El Toro moves on to play Tuesday night at No. 3 seed Thousand Oaks.
