Tesoro quickly moves into high gear in 54-0 victory
LAS FLORES - Tesoro scored less than two minutes into its game with Valley Christian of Cerritos and rolled to a 54-0 victory in both teams’ season opener Thursday night at Tesoro High.
The Titans defense forced a three-and-out before sophomore quarterback Matt Adam broke free for 33 yards for the first of his two rushing touchdowns. It gave Tesoro a 7-0 lead with 10:55 in the first quarter and the Titans (1-0) kept pushing from there.
Other highlights included Jordan Alvino’s 70-yard interception return for a touchdown, Eric Law’s 23-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown and Ryan Dunne’s 35-yard interception return for the final score.

“That stuff was really exciting for me,” Tesoro coach Brian Barnes said. “That’s where I get my joy. Overall I’m happy. Now we can get ready for next week."
Barnes and Valley Christian coach Erick Streelman were roommates together at the University of Nevada. The two talked about playing each other before Christmas last season.
“It was a good win for us,” Barnes said. “Valley Christian is really stepping up its level of competition.”
Tesoro’s defense made it tough on the Crusaders (0-1). Valley Christian managed to march into the red zone on one occasion, but the drive ended in an interception.
It was one of four interceptions by Tesoro, which ended the game with five forced turnovers.
Tesoro plays host to Santa Margarita next week.
“I feel we played like a team tonight,” Adam said. “If we keep doing that we will be all right.”
