OCVarsity previews football teams for the 2008-09 season.

Eastside Christian

Last season: 2-5, 1-2 (3rd in Express League)

Postseason: 2004, lost to Desert Chapel of Palm Springs, 49-0, in first round 8-man Division II playoffs

Coach: Carl Babb (1st year)

Outlook: The veteran Babb replaces Al Arevalos, who resigned after three seasons because of health reasons. Babb's roster is 14 deep, which includes only three seniors and one junior. Despite the lack of experience, Babb is optimistic. He has changed the Eagles to a single-wing offense and likes junior Curtis Rominger and senior Chad Carver as rushers. Carver is an athletic transfer from Idaho. Babb believes Andrew Diebold will be a strong two-way lineman. But the key could be how the sophomore-laden Eagles develop.

Home stadium: Pacific Drive Elementary

Factoid: Babb has been an assistant at Buena Park, El Modena, Santiago, Bolsa Grande and Sunny Hills.
