La Habra rolls behind Hillman's 5 TDs
La Habra vs. Troy. Game played at Fullerton High.
FULLERTON - The La Habra football team dominated a Freeway League opponent for the second consecutive week.
Ronnie Hillman scored five touchdowns — two rushing and three receiving — and gained 222 all-purpose yards to lead the Highlanders to a 45-0 victory over Troy on Friday at Fullerton High.
Hillman's 21-yard scoring run in the first quarter gave La Habra (5-2, 2-0) a 14-0 lead.
Hillman had touchdown catches of 9 and 49 yards in the second quarter and a 64-yard scoring run and an 18-yard touchdown catch in the third.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound senior has 639 yards rushing, 542 yards receiving and 15 touchdowns through seven games.
After the Highlanders made it 45-0 with 6 minutes remaining in the third quarter, the rest of the game was played with a running clock.
A new league rule, invoked by Freeway League principals this week, mandates a running clock after a team leads by 42 points.
The rule was instituted after the Highlanders' 62-0 victory over Sonora and Fullerton's 50-7 victory over Buena Park in Week 6.
Mazzotta said the rule prevents him from giving playing time to substitutes.
"I don't think it (the new rule) is necessary," Mazzotta. "My only issue is the playing time for the second- and third-unit kids."
The Warriors dropped to 1-6 and 0-2.
