The Orange County Register

They found the tooth.

The Register's OC Varsity section Saturday included a picture of San Clemente third baseman Keegan Cardin losing a tooth, the result of a bad-hop ground ball in the sixth inning of the Tritons' 7-5 victory over Trabuco Hills in a South Coast League game. An accompanying photo showed players and coaches from both teams scouring the infield dirt for Cardin's tooth.

The tooth was reinserted by a dentist. San Clemente coach Dave Gellatly said he was told there is "a 50-50 chance" the reinsertion will be successful, but there were sub-fractures to four other teeth that Gellatly said could create more dental issues for Cardin.

"That probably won the game for us," Gellatly said. "At the time, Trabuco had all the momentum. Then we had a 15-minute tooth delay, and that broke their momentum."

San Clemente is in first place in the South Coast League with a half-game lead over Capistrano Valley.

If a top 25 poll were taken, here is how the Register would vote for places 11-25 (with records in parentheses): 11. Marina (13-5); 12. Edison (13-8); 13. Villa Park (10-7-1); 14. Corona del Mar (14-5) 15. Troy (12-5); 16. Ocean View (14-5); 17. Foothill (13-7); 18. Trabuco Hills (12-5-1); 19. Fountain Valley (9-9); 20. El Toro (11-9); 21. Dana Hills (9-11); 22. La Quinta (15-4); 23. Mission Viejo (8-12); 24. El Dorado (10-10); 25. Servite (9-10).
